Personally, I don't feel clouded, and I'm grateful to Jeff for running it. I'm sure it's not easy to keep track of it all, and mistakes are inevitable.
It's not like we're paying for this, or that people's lives or well-being are at stake - it's a silly game about polyps, that we're all doing just for fun. I hope. |

Jeff,
I'd just like to say thanks for running these tournaments. Mistakes happen, but it's just a friendly tourney. There's no big prize at stake, so it doesn't really matter. I'm having fun, which it what it's there for. Presumably, Danbar is having twice as much fun
If I'm going to question anyone, then I'd have to ask why Danbar didn't raise this before the matches got under way; (s)he must have noticed.
Nevertheless, your efforts are appreciated. Thanks again.

hagin is clearly way out of line. If he truly feels offended perhaps (s)he should consider not entering tournaments in the future. It's really easy to make mistakes running these tournaments, as Gaditus said there's no easy way to do it, it's all by hand. Restarting the entire tournament is not something I would ever consider doing once games are started. It's tough luck for hagin that he missed out, but given these tournaments are purely for fun, then the "corruption" of the draw by having one player play twice is not important. In the Hac tournaments on several occasions I've allowed players to sign up twice so I got to a round number.
I'm slowly improving my own mechanisms for creating the tournaments, making them (I hope) less error prone. However I'm yet to find a way to automate the entrants - ie make sure i dont miss anyone.
I'm sure that Jeff realises that hagin's response is nothing like the consensus opinion here. |

I wasn't going to comment on this further, as Jeff clearly made an innocent mistake but at least he is prepared to make the effort to organise these tournaments for all of our enjoyment
I am now surprised that hagin takes such an attitude when he has been refusing to play in a game he set up and I joined in all competitive spirit of the site.
Jeff, thanks for all your efforts and one error in many posts should be accepted as such and not be taken as offensive. With the goodwill of all organisers and participants we should be able to enjoy many more tournaments.

|

First of all, hagin, grow up! The face that you got skipped was, I'm sure, a simple mistake. A simple reply of, "I'd have liked to be in this tournament, is there anything that might be done to fix it," would have been appropriate. For you to post the angry replies you have posted is not at all appropriate. If this were my tournament, I'd simply throw you out for lacking manners, and if a decision was made that would require another player, I'd open it up to someone else. Please, this is for fun, don't make Jeff wonder why he bothers.
Jeff, there are a couple of solutions that don't require replaying the entire tournament or just automatically allowing someone into the second round. It should be possible to either replay all the games I was involved in, adding hagin in to the games I shouldn't have been part of. The second solution, which I think would work based on the way you schedule games, would be to replay one of the two sets of games that I'm in. I, of course, would prefer you not replay a set of games if I'm actually doing well in them. Just kidding of course, whichever you chose would be fine with me.
I know this causes some annoyance to those who have already played and won a particular game with me, which in a 3-player game is pretty much a 50/50 shot since I'm guaranteed to not win, but I think those are the fairest solutions.
What do you and the other players think?

Of course it was.

Actually if you read the thread:
http://www.spielbyweb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1964
All I did was query why I'd be missed. A reply was given whereby I thought my name had simply been missed and that was that... until I discovered someone was in twice.
The reason that matters is because it's no longer an even playing field and, more to the point, the error was noticed early and would've been relatively easy to fix (by starting a new set of 4-5 games). A Hacienda tournament I was in did this when incorrect instructions led tot he wrong maps being used. Some of the games were stopped in time. Many weren't but that was OK, they were just extra (non-tournament) games.

Hey if I was in the tournament we wouldn't be having a conversation about me not being in would we?
I'd certainly still be raising an objection to someone being in twice however.

This is a well-intentioned solution but I think inappropriate. It would've been fine to do before games started, while they were in setup phase or (possibly) during round 1. It's best just to let it run now. I'm not trying to get into this tournament. It's too late for that. I'll simply get in the next one.
Look, I've had a really stressful week. I don't mean to be a bother. Rather I was trying to point out what should've been the appropriate course of action.
Jeff, thanks for organising these tournaments. |

thank you all for your input on this issue, I have decided to have 12 people in the semifinals instead of the 9. All the people will play 5 games in the semifinals.
so the top 11 from the first round and Hagin will be in the semifinals
The following 6 people have clinched a spot in the semifinals: tphon,Dobinator, kxw, bugink, lindalait and worcesterarlo
I am sure this solution will not make everyone happy, but I think it is the fairest solution.
Thank you, good luck and have fun
Jeff
