I posted over in the main forum about how I would like to see a points-based ranking system that would consider the number of players in a game. I feel that it is harder to win vs more opponents and thus winning a 4-p game should be worth more pts than a 3-p win, which is worth more than a 2-p win. I decided to apply this system for Tikal to see who the top players are. They are (based on 15 or > games completed):
Rank Name Avg pts/game
1 JimF 2.947
2 xescalona 2.789
3 Magic Rat 2.600
4 powermorph 2.250
5 Maeglor 2.172
6 Sparrowhawk 2.158
7 artman 2.118
8 dilsonfilho 2.059
9 L_Hudson 2.000
10 Sailsa 1.900
11 Ray Swan 1.875
12 JeffyJeff 1.846
13 Shazam! 1.750
14 mrbassx 1.747
15 Jimzik 1.733
16 Denise 1.688
17 beauka 1.615
18 Dozer 1.610
19 laevus 1.600
20 BoneDigger 1.581
21 wallover 1.528
22 willythesnitch 1.500
23 Joel 1.417
24 CrazyYog 1.391
25 rix_cz 1.348
26 klingone 1.316
27 fr33py 1.259
28 Cromaa 1.250
29 40thann 1.241
30 pronoblem 1.188
31 danbar1963 1.176
32 outsidelime 1.172
33 tomlynch 1.167
34 Big J 1.146
35 Prinalla 1.143
36 GregK 1.125
37 Alashar 1.114
38 Tough as Nails 1.105
39 ESnider 1.063
40 FriedieFish 1.056
So, how did I come up with this? Actually a very simple system. You get 2 pts for a 2-p win, 3 pts for a 3-p win, and 4 pts for a 4-p win. In addition, you get docked 1 pt each time you beat the same player in a 2-p game. So basically, if you keep playing 2-p vs the same opponent and win, you only get 1 pt instead of 2. And that is it!
I will attempt to update this on a monthly basis. Any feedback is welcome. |

Cripes! JimF has won 17 out of 19 games, mostly 4-player games, too! Jim, share your secrets with us. Or at least write a strategy article for BGG. |

Here's my rating system:
1. mrbassx
2. ----------
How did I come up with it? Glad you asked..minimum 80 games played of tikal. You get docked 25 points if you exceed 100 games played of Tikal and 5 points docked if your name starts with an "s" and flip birdies. Also docked 50 points if your associated with digging up bones.
serious note: It's a blast playing and stats are a way to track personal progress. As long as your improving over time then it's good and fun. I hope those enjoying it consider donating $10 or so to help cover bandwidth costs.
Also I've never played the auction variant so I'm sure when that gets introduced I'll get schooled good in it. Hopefully I'll pick it up soon enough seems to be just figuring out the right amount to bid.
Yes JimF is mensa game member or something. |

I did not make the top 40 becasue I play to many games with
cheaters --- Adam, Gary and Radek you know who you are
note -- they are between 1.30 to 1.80 on the scale
as for JimF he is a great player in the all the games not just Tikal

Hi Bob, I donīt agree I donīt think it is funny to say about somebody that he is cheater. I was thinking about message you wrote me that it was for FUN only. http://www.spielbyweb.com/messages.php?games_id=8236 At first I thought Iīve just translate something in wrong way but it looks clear. It is same like you say Radek is cheater. I know who Iīm and i donīneed to cheat.
It is just for explanation |

Stargate, I'm not entirely sure how you can label someone a cheater in an online PBW site. I could understand if it was F2F, but the parameters of this site are rather locked down, making cheating (almost) impossible |

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think it is even possible to cheat on this site.
Just to illustrate how my rankings work, Rix_cz has won 83% of his games, but all but 1 were 2-p games, therefore he ranks only 25th. |

My note was a very poor attempt at humor and I did
tell rix_cx that I was very sorry
I will be more careful with my comments |

Thank you Bob. Itīs allright now. I was just a little bit confused because I wasnīt sure if there was any reason for you to feel what youīve felt. |

If we start betting real money on these games I guess you could consider that cheating someone out of some cash. I knew exactly what stargate meant. He's just venting some frustration that's all and uses an exteme example.
You'll never know how people will react to your humor. Case in point, a few years back when I used to be a teacher (college aged students) I would demonstrate stopping a fan with my tongue. One girl starting balling and wouldn't stop for 20mins. I found out it brought back memories when she was little of how her sister got her finger chopped off in a fan. Great...just my luck...needless to say I was banned from stopping fans with my tongue at that school. Their loss. |
