10/24 finished
special mention to Adriaan Pieters, who won just his third tournament game in about 50 attempts, defeating one of the top 10 players in klingone in the process. Congrats!

1 game left to finish, which doesn't affect the top 4.
Another tournament which shows the value in fighting for every point even when losing.... I've edged out almondralf by a single point to make the final.

Games, gische, IBX and myself play the final.
Games to create a v0 game on a map of his choice.
gische creates the V1 game
IBX the V2 game
I'll create the v1,2 game

Four interesting finals were played out.
First game done was on the V12 game on the dogbone map, where 3 very experienced players allowed Games to take the whole of the centre unopposed, and never look like being caught.
gische chose a rather small map for the v1 game, creating a very crowded game. Must have helped gische as he went on to win fairly easily!
The v0 game was next done, on map 179. Games went for his favourite touch all the markets, while I built a moderate land mass before trying to touch them all. Games had a 5 point lead at the halfway and blocked me from one market in the second half, but ran out of money too early and I was able to pass him easily enough in the end game.
Last game to finish was on map 217, not a favourite of mine. I learned from previous losses and went for the centre. Surprisingly, much as Games was unopposed in the first game, nobody else went for the middle this time either. The resulting 20+ vp margin shows how effective this was.
So final standings:
Winner: Kanga (2 wins)
Runners up: GamesOnTheBrain, gische
Finalist: IBX |

Yes, a very good final indeed.
I learned a lot in this final:
1) The market strategy typically does not work against very good players.
2) I need to examine the minimum number of animals I'll need to touch 9+ markets prior to deciding whether or not to go for it in round A.
3) I need to manage my money better. I waste far too many actions harvesting tiny land masses.
Hopefully I can break away from some of my bad habits. |

Oh god, please don't get better. I have a hard enough time not getting thumped every time we play. |
