i think knave showed himself as someone trying to organise something he likes and determined to continue his strive. He doesn't get out of focus by others who are getting within his aim disrupting his strive.
I think that's a very good quality if done in friendly or respectfull way.
IMO it was stevve who started to be unfriendly certainly not knave.
I think i am a fast player, but before i would join a fast game like the games setup by knave i would probably send a pm first asking if i would be fast enough, maybe checking time zone's first etc. (Tho i can wander to the correct timezone in notime )
I have read the conditions for the fast player leaque and i was rapidly distracted there where too many. i really like to play fast games but not in the format knave choose to set it up. |

there's absolutely nothing wrong with organizing "fast" games and asking for only the corresponding players to join; what in my humble opinion constitutes the unsportsmanlike conduct on knave's behalf is the fact that he lashed out at stevve15 unprovoked based only on his turn average: unless we know about a players personal situation we have to give everybody the benefit of the doubt: maybe someone has a few days off and will be able to comply with the requirements or the time difference due to location will enable to respond within reasonable time; but just attacking because of a somewhat meaningless number should not be what this site should be about... |

Wow! Another couple of minutes of my life spent reading this stuff!
I think we need another forum thread. Maybe "Verbal bashing" as the forum descriptor. Just to make it easy to find all of these posts without having to troll the other forums?
I can see what Knave is trying to do but I wonder if, in say 5 years (if he is still playing), he wil have learn't how to achieve the result he is trying to achieve without aggravating half of his opponents! I suspect I would have approached the same issue in the same way in my teens (and in fact if someone does something that aggravates me enough I will still have a go), but a slower turn time doesn't meet that criteria for me! |

To avoid all unnecessary problems, those creators of fast games with strict demands concerning players speed shall set up a game with note e.g. "pls only players with 5 less hours per turn" then everything is clear, because a "fast game" for one player is not a "fast game" for another".
Concerning deliberate unfinishing of game, it is a very unfair behaviour in spite of everything what happened in that game. Steve should go on and finish that one. |

Firstly you only specified that
"(my other games are so slow so plz make this one go smooth)"
What's the definition of fast? Stevve has an average turn time of less than 7 hours. That's probably making his moves 2 or 3 times a day at least, especially given the timezone he lives in. Without any further restrictions I dont even think he was being rude by joining.
Of course the game went fairly quickly. 22 days for a 5 player game is almost 10 moves a day. If you created 10 so called fast games, 22 days would be about average.
I would suggest you owe him a substantial apology, knave. Your comments, while quite mild by your standards, were way out of line and show your immaturity. |
Also of note:
Knave's game he created as 'Fast player League' which he claims will solve his problem of 'slowness' has been running a week, and is in round 3... as a 4 player game.. Unless it very suddenly picks up steam, I'd peg it to finish after a bit over two weeks... no so very different from the game we're talking about here(since there was an extra player), especially somce one player may have specifically attempted to slow it down. |

The game in question was fast. I had predicted at the beginning that it would be slow, and I was wrong. Similarly, if you roll a pair of dice, I can confidently predict that you will not roll a 12.
...but I could be wrong. Averages are tools that can be used to possibly predict likely outcomes, but if you claim that you can guarantee a certain outcome, then you simply don't understand stats.
But, yeah, I like the straw man attempt. Well done wildfire.
And besides, the real point here is that Stevve is abandoning the game, mostly because he is losing. If you are pissed about the attitude of a player, you abandon at the beginning of the game, not the end. Don't be fooled by his phony casus belli, though, wildfire, with your liberal adoption of "facts", I wonder how you are able to distinguish reality from fantasy at all. Feel free to side with Stevve, to be honest, I don't really care. Says more about you than about me. Yahkeh was the one who was really bothered by this... |

Knave, I don't know you at all, but I'm thinking you're not aware that you're coming across, at least to me, as pushy, obnoxious, and well outside the friendly, good-natured, laid-back attitude this place usually has. I've taken part in my share of ill-advised Internet flame wars in the past, so I don't really have standing to call anybody out, but I will say I'm tired of reading about it. I wish you luck in finding games that are fast enough for you, but I'd rather not hear about your squabbles every day.
As an aside, I'd have kept my mouth shut if not for the tiny-font rant in the above message, which if anybody cares, says Quote: | And besides, the real point here is that Stevve is abandoning the game, mostly because he is losing. OK, so let me get this straight, you consider a game completing in 3 weeks fast? Yet you're doing all this complaining?
I'm officially confused. |

I figured, that is because you haven't been listening to what I am saying. Instead, you imagined what I was saying, and responding to that fantasy.
To summarize, there are multiple threads here, you might be confusing them.
First line of thought:
1) At the beginning of the game with Stevve, I thought the game would be slow since his turn average was slow
2) The game was not slow
3) Stevve decided to abandon the game when he saw I was going to win
4) Yahkeh started this thread
Second line of thought:
1) I prefer faster games
2) Slow people join my games specifically designated for fast people
3) I am trying to find a way to play with like-minded people
Third line of thought:
1) I play with slow people
2) I do not complain when I play with slow people in normal games
3) I complain bitterly when slow people join my fast games
Fourth line of thought:
1) I do not have a pleasant online personality
2) People mix up their dislike of me with their dislike of what I am saying.
Offhand, I think you mixed up the third and first threads of thought, along with a little bit of the fourth. I am not clear if you did so on purpose or out of ignorance. I complained at the beginning of the game, and I clearly did not complain at the end when it turned out to be fast overall. I don't complain about slow people, I complain about slow people who join fast games.
I think I have had enough of this, I will continue to push fast games, but I think I will stop responding to people who deliberately misrepresent my positions. Somebody will post a response to this last paragraph along the lines of "great" thinking that they are clever, and perhaps that will be the end of this. |

I'm just trying to figure out why you're so grumpy, to be honest... every post you've made has been hostile to someone, or everyone in general.
Just be happy |

On a few different boards and games that I have been onvolved in over the years there has been a pottymouth setting for those people who are being gross/offensive/swearing etc. I wonder if we need one here?
Not being able to post for a week if 6 people vote that your post is offensive or some such scheme would work well ... then again ... I might decide to vote that Kanga is offensive to stall the tournaments for a week! |

Personally I think Knave is a total idiot.
He has been unnecessarily rude to countless people in the SBW community, bitching about turn speeds to people he doesn't even know - sometimes before people have actually been slow!
I think the key point here is that he should not have predicted in the message log that Stevie was going to be slow. He lacks social graces that a balanced person should exhibit. |
