Clearly division 8 all have bosses that don't appreciate them gaming throughout the workday.

While I do like a slightly quicker pace, we're doing ok.

I'm not exactly a slow player, and I never put in moves during the workday, I'm just too busy. Unless you work 12 hours shifts though, that really shouldn't be an issue.

Are you based in the US? If so, it is an issue if you're playing with players from Europe - by the time you get back from work, we're going to bed.

You can put in moves before work, after work, and before you go to sleep, which is about 3 times per day, mostly evenly spaced. If everyone did that, we would all be getting in 3 moves per day.

I was simply pointing out that using work time to play on this website is hardly a requirement to play fast Smile

Not necessarily

Even if all players log in three times a day, if their time zones line up wrong you may not even see one turn a day.

If you have a game with people from Europe and Oz/NZ, then even if we all play before and after work and before going to bed our turns probably won't mesh and we would get one, possibly two turns, at best.

I've certainly noticed several recent games moving more quickly than others because the players have clearly been online at the same time with turns coming around every few minutes. Not everyone publishes their time zone so I've not been able to confirm in most cases, but clearly this more likely to happen if we live in similar zones.

I probably have more variable playing habits than most as I split my life between two countries. When I'm in the UK, I generally follow a pattern similar to your example. I don't always take a turn before going to work because of the time my PC takes to boot, but do quite often. I also check regularly throughout the evening, except when we have a ftf session. When I'm with my family in Italy I work from home and I do play during the working day but only check for moves occasionally during the evening. I am also of course shifted one hour earlier and lose two days a month travelling. Interestingly, while I regularly take multiple turns in the same games during the evening this rarely happens during the day. Presumably, while many Europeans are online throughout the evening, and any game with just Europeans may therefore move quickly, few play during the day and this time zone doesn't coincide with a popular online time for any one else. Which is a shame as I'll be giving up work and moving out here permanently soon. Sad

Fair enough, give me two time zones, and then we will sketch out what happens if each player makes a move every 8 hours or so. Any time zones, c'mon... you can do it, find a pair of time zones where two players, each moving once every 8 hours, will only make one move a day.

If you can do that, I promise not to post on this forum for a week, which will be a welcome respite to everyone, I am sure
Wink

If you must, you can make it a 9,8,7 hour difference between the turns, line them up as you feel will best cause slowness. (I say this only because a perfect 8,8,8 move schedule will always allow 3 moves per day, 9,8,7 lets you bring it down to 2, but it would be tough to bring it down to 1. And, of course, that is in a perfectly bad situation. Even with a 9,8,7, the vast majority of pairs will be moving 3 times per day. Essentially, to get down to 2, you have to enclose the 7 hour pair of turns within the 9 hour time difference)

If all three players are taking moves 8 hours apart, you might only see one turn per player per day. Player A takes a turn at 800 GMT. Player B at 1600 GMT, Player C at 2400 GMT. Player B must wait for Player A to complete their turn before they can take theirs, Player C must wait for Player B, and Player A must wait for Player C. So even if they all log in at 800, 1600, and 2400, there's a possibility of only one turn per player per day.
