Greetings to albeitar, Araneuz, Barra(uda, gregyako and tab99 You guys are signed up for the Tikal Oktoberfest tournament. This post will define the tournament format and rules.
There are two QUALIFYING rounds, with two games per round for each of us. ROUND 1 consists of six 2-player games and ROUND 2 consists of four 3-player games. Tournament points are awarded according to your order of finish in the four games you will play: 5 points for first in all games, 3 points for second in the 3-player games and 1 point for last in all games. In the event of a tie, the tied players split the appropriate tournament points.
The three players with the highest point totals after the qualifying rounds move on to the PLAYOFFS. The PLAYOFFS consist of two games: one 3-player SEMI-FINAL and one 2-player FINAL game. The player who finishes last in the semi-final game is eliminated in 3rd place and the other two players square off in the final game to determine the tournament champion. In the event of a tie, the tie-breaker goes to the player with the most workers not yet in play on the board. If there is still a tie after that in the semi-final game, all three players advance to the final game. Same tie-breaker rules apply in the final game so we could end up with two (or even three ) champions. Let's do our best to avoid ties.
All games are standard format. All qualifying games in ROUND 1 will be played concurrently. It takes 18 rounds to complete a 2-player game so ROUND 1 will take no more than 18 days because you all agreed to take at least one turn per game per day. Likewise, all qualifying games in ROUND 2 will be played concurrently after ROUND 1 finishes. It takes 12 rounds to complete a 3-player game so ROUND 2 will take no more than 12 days. To make that schedule work please plan to play the four scoring rounds as soon as they come up. So ROUND 1 will take one month and will finish on November 15 at the latest.
Using the same formula of 30 rounds to complete a 2-player game followed by a 3-player game, the PLAYOFFS will take one month and will finish on December 15th at the latest. So we'll finish well before the holidays.
OK, that's enough on the rules already. My next post will list the match ups for ROUND 1 and it will follow this one as fast as I can write it, so please stay tuned _________________ thanks for reading this far, JokeToy |

A couple of corrections to this post and another tie breaker rule:
Where it says "So ROUND 1 will take one month and will finish on November 15 at the latest" it should say "So ROUND 2 will take one month and will finish on November 15 at the latest".
Where it says "Using the same formula of 30 rounds to complete a 2-player game followed by a 3-player game" it should say "Using the same formula of 30 rounds to complete a 3-player game followed by a 2-player game".
If two (or more) players are tied in tournament points and they are tied for 3rd place after the two qualifying rounds, the player with the most total Tikal Victory Points in the four qualifying games will advance to the playoffs.
Let's keep up the excellent pace of play and get ROUND 2 of the qualifying stage started this week _________________ thanks for reading this far, JokeToy |
