I just noticed that there are now (as of 1 February, 2015) more current games of Hoity Toity -68- than Tikal -54- on SBW. And none of the Hoity Toity games is "in the red", whereas 9 of the Tikal games are.
My sense of the historical numbers is that something like 3 times as many games of Tikal have been played on SBW as Hoity Toity. So why the recent Hoity Toity upswing? Is the popularity of Tikal on the wane in 2015? Has it been played out? I certainly hope not but there is a noticeable downward trend in things like number of open games being created. Maybe Hoity Toity is just a better game (but I doubt it).
Also of interest is that the top 3 Hoity Toity winners all joined SBW on exactly the same day, 13 January, 2013. That seems truly remarkable to me but I won't even try to speculate about what it means
