I'm new to Santiago, and the scoring rules are unclear. What I want to know is, in scoring, do you get extra points if your plantations are connected? Let's say I have three plantations connected, each with two planters on them; is that worth six points, or something more? In other words, would these connected plantations be worth more than if they were just three separate plantations scattered over the board?

Connected they would score 3 (plantations) x 6 (planters) = 18.

Separately they would be 3 x (1 x 2) = 6.

Note that the connected plantations do not have to be all yours. If there was a connected group of 6 plantations each player gets 6 x his/her planters on that group of 6.

To be clear - the only connection that's relevant is plantations connected to others of the same type/color. It doesn't matter if your plantations are connected to other ones you own - only if they're connected to the same type/color.
