I guess the subject line says it all.
The gamer with the most wins would most always have the most points.
Ranking by average points scored in the games would offer a better statment of skill.

Not sure I agree with this. Some games have a different play style, fewer farmers, fewer cards available due to provinces that come up in auction. Even in a 5 player game, where all provinces come out, the order they come out dictates how many points will be scored. Early money vs. late money, early farmers vs. late farmers. I don't see this being an accurate way to measure things at all. All of these reasons become even bigger in a 3 or 4 player game were certain provinces don't even come out.
