I really wouldn’t say it is dangerous other than you could melt the surface you are using and ruin your clothes. Ironing boards are designed so that the heat radiates back up into the material and keeps the moisture from building up making it harder to keep creases in.
You will also need a good steam iron, which will provide you with a quick and easy ironing. On this site https://ironsexpert.net/ you can see articles and recommendations on how to use the iron. There are reviews on different models of irons |
