Following up on this, the game order on the last round was:

Yellow
Red - The winner according to the SPW
Blue - Me
Green

Red and I were both on 5 points at game end with no time stops.

The only thing I can think of is that I chose first player on the final round (round 9), but we didn't get to the bit where it should change because yellow grabbed the last time counter and ended the game before the vroom stage let alone the starting player change.

Does anyone have any ideas why Red won?

Isn't it coz red got to 5 points before you did? Hence his counter is below yours in the stack (in the board game the later player would put their token on top)

That is correct. If 2 (or more) players tie for 5 points (after the clock is taken into account), then the player who got to 5 points first is the winner.
