What determines when a game is abandoned?
I am currently involved in a seemingly interminable game of Amun Re (it has been over two months and we are only half finished). Further, it has been over a week since the last player took his turn. Personally, I'd rather the game was simply canceled (so that I didn't have to keep logging in to check on it), but I'm not sure what the procedure for that is.
By and large, I've been very pleased with my experiences on this site, but this game is really aggravating me!

we all find slow games annoying
the missing player does have their profile marked as away until July 9
we all have real lives and sometimes life gets in the way of a hobby
wait until the player returns and continue the game then
to answer your question >>>
games go on the abandoned games list after 2 months of no activity
note: SBW does not delete games at a user's request |

..and the solution to the problem of logging in with the keenly felt result of disappointment is (drum roll) (dramatic pause) to play lots more games Seriously, if you have 50 or so games in play, you will not likely get overly disappointed in any one game that happens to cheese out because of a (@$^#%^) (translated: wienie) player (except, of course, for tournaments, which I highly recommend for the more serious players). In any case, life is full of roses and dog poop. It is up to you to decide which one you choose to smell. Enjoy (either one you choose)! |

Why do you have to log in? I get email notifications when it is my turn to move. |

Apparently dklein, you have not reached the OCD level of many participants of this site...we who have to check so much that other parts of our lives have gone by the wayside. Jobs have lost, marriages have been broken, children have starved to death....all in the name of the almighty SpielByWeb |

You've nailed it! Further, in that I (now) determine whether I'll join a game based on the average turn time of the other players, I don't want to accidentally miss my turn and drive my average up unnecessarily! It is indeed rather OC... |

Stargate, how did you find the aforementioned game so easily, to notice that the player in questions is marked away? I've been wondering this for a while when I see people talking about games they are not in. Is there a search function somewhere to find games by player or something?

Hi Jeff,
I think he probably clicked on my profile and then looked at my "Current Games." |

no problem
I went to the profile of CarnubaWax
I clicked on his active games (there was only one)
I clicked on the profile of the user who's turn it is
total of 3 clicks

Ahh yes, the old profile trick. The profile button must have been obscured by my optic nerve or something. I see it now. Thanks!! |
