I might be jumping in when I shouldn't but aren't these issues part of game play? Whether someone tries to make u lose or makes a move that u disagree with as a player u should try to "outdo" that person or "outwit" them. These are games....swallow your pride, lose a few and figure out how to win with opposition.
Just my 2 cents....

In a game like Tikal one player can easily make sure that a specific other player doesn't win. It has nothing to do with outwitting your opponents. |

Can't that person do the same thing to those players?

I have to agree... when someone bites my nice large coral in half in Reef Encounter, I curse them... but with a grin. These aren't cooperative games after all. Different people have different tactics and those work well in different situations. When someone is learning then quite often their tactics are poor.
Similarly, you don't have to understand someone else's tactics to make them tactics worth trying. On the whole I assume that all those people trying to beat me in a game are doing so in a sense of determination to wipe me out, but in the most friendly way possible
Also, in games like Tikal I think it is important to never view a temple as "my temple" unless you have a guard on it. Any unguarded temple is goes to whoever wants it and can get the most people on it
I have been genuinely impressed by the friendliness of SPW players. Especially those who explain games to you whilst at the same time thrashing you completely. Without that I would never have learnt some of these games! |

That's not unique to Tikal, of course.
Yes, if someone plays only to deprive another player of points, ignoring his own score and scoring opportunities, that's pretty bad sportsmanship; but depriving other players of points, or making it expensive for them to score points, is a huge part of Tikal strategy. And if you happen to be in the lead, you can be damn sure someone is likely to try to do that to you. It's not bullying or harassment, it's part of the strategy of the game.
It almost sounds like you expect that, if you are in the lead, the other players won't do anything to prevent you from winning. |

Hmmm, an apology was offered and then accepted. Should we just leave it at that? |

Hacienda has that, as well....I can't count the number of times I've been blocked out of multiple markets or blocked a specific player out of getting to a market. Keeping your opponents from being able to score can be just as important as scoring points for yourself. I think, if certain strategies weren't played out, these games could become very similar to tic-tac-toe or connect four. Once you figure the rules out you can, at times, have a stalemate of sorts. Then turns become tedious and predictable. I take it as a compliment when someone is trying to "shut" me down....it means I'm a threat. |
