In one of the beta games we had talked about customizing some of the rules for the custom maps. I have a map that was designed for 2P and has the following customizations:

=====================
# players: 2
Market payout: as variant #1, but do not change costs of hacienda/water (i.e. they remain at 12 each)

# of non-Pampas land cards total: 8 each
# of Pampas land cards total: 6 (includes 4 from below)
# of animal cards total: 9 each
# of harvest & haciendas available: 3 each
# of non-single water tiles available: 1 each
# of single water tiles available: 0

Each player starts with:
Pesos: 20
Pampas cards: 2 (they remain face-up, but it's not necessary for SBW)
Random land: 3
Random animals: 2

Face up land & animal cards to choose from: 3 each

Scoring Changes:
Land Chain, per tile (>= 3 hexes): 1 pt each
Herd, per tile (>= 3): 1 pt each
Single water tiles: 2 points per hex

Animal cards are dived in half, odd card goes in first deck. Two scorings as per normal.
=====================

HappyProle, you had said some are more doable than others. Any thoughts now that we're out of beta? I would love to play this map online!

Making the hacienda/water costs a map-dependent parameter would be doable.

All of these I think would be doable.

Changing what cards people start with would also be fairly easy.

This one might require the most work to change.

Scoring might be the hardest thing to change -- and I'm not sure it's a path I want to go down.

This wouldn't be difficult.

All in all it wouldn't be that much work to change things to include a variant #3 for these rules -- the real work would be developing the framework so that someone could create an arbitrary set of rules for their custom variant.

I think in the near future we'll focus on getting the custom map feature working correctly and start looking at what types of simple initial game conditions people might want to tweak to fit a particular map.

I noticed that all the custom maps are "random"
but the hex count for land hexes says --- Random 0

also -- could a comment line be added to the preview box
that way the user who created the map could leave message like:
--- map for 2 players only or
--- better with 4-5 players or
--- never play this map with Variant 1

when you browse the custom maps
one piece of information is the numbers of plays on the map
it would be helpful if the creator of the map could go to
a list of those games played or being played on the map ----
the way you get a list of active and completed games in the user profiles

this way we could see if our maps were working as intended
or if we had created a map that needed to be fixed or made inactive

Happy Holidays everyone!

Was wondering if there was a chance that any of this will become available anytime soon? Alternately, perhaps the source could be made available and I could take a shot at it? Our entry to the Hacienda contest "won" (I'm not sure that any entries lost), and I'd like to see others have a chance at trying it.
