I have update the forum to not allow any bbcode ( bold, italics, images, links) from users with fewer than 10 posts. I am hoping this will keep the bots more in check, but still lets new users post questions as long as they don't try to do links or images. _________________ ---------------

Sounds like an excellent solution. Thanks Ryan! |

user Gaditus tells me by in-game message that he can't post at all as he has less than 10 games. So it looks like it's not just diabled BBcode (whatever that is!) but all postings by new players.
If you want to discuss with him, I'm happy to relay messages, or come and see us in Amun Re game 26973.
His text:
I can not post to the forum as I keep getting can't use bbcode as less than 10 posts. However I am not using bbcode - even tried disabling it. Can you make a post telling Ryan this is the case please. Presumably you have more than 10 posts Fred! |

How about not allowing posts unless you already have posted a minimum of ten posts? |

I run a phpbb forum for my online gaming guild and I implemented a fix that has squashed all bots to date. You may want to consider it - it is an approved mod and is detailed here:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=552845
Basically you put a code somewhere that user has to enter. Bots don't do it, but humans have no issue with it. The VIP code is clearly posted on the site and I also I added the following item to our FAQ:
What is my VIP code?
The VIP code required to register on our forums is XoX and it is case sensitive, so be sure to type the 3 letters exactly as you see them here on the registration form. This is an anti-spambot measure we were forced to take.
Just something to consider instead of the standard phpbb options. |

Why was Fangarr allowed posting? He used a link and was his first post?
I have nothing against you fangarr, but found this bizard. |

Oh my God! Good catch Messier Docaction. I think he's a bot pretending to be our friend. Nobody panic. Keep chatting with him while we prepare our counter-attack. Who's the commander in duty? We need to wake him up and prepare our defenses. Lets put more bricks in our firewalls...
Mr Fangarr, I don't know how you did it, but welcome to SBW. |

This is getting serious. Where is CSI SBW? I think the bots have now overtaken Stargate and made him friendly...what has the world come to? |

The link he posted wasn't via bbcode. It was just a web address that turns into a link. The code I added isn't perfect, but so far it's stopped all bot posting. I haven't had to delete any posts since I added it in. _________________ ---------------
