I've tried to upload an avatar image in both jpg and gif format with no success. I get various strange messages about headers and access.

I had this same problem. Only one of the three options would work for me. Luckily, I have the option of doing all three. The successful one was one of the two where you provide a url.

This should be fixed now. Some seem to have lost their avatars for some reason -- if this is the case for you, try uploading it again...

I don't seem to be able to do this with any of the options.

The 'from local file' option gives PHP permission errors, and the other two claim that the profile has been updated but the image isn't displayed as the current image at the bottom of the profile page.

I'm getting strange messages about headers and access when trying to upload an avatar. I wonder if it's the same permission problem that some people had last year.
