|
|
All the winners are decided. The games generally went to the higher ranked players, although snoozefest upset spearjr, and Alashar knocked the lesser Robert (lol) from the tournament.
Round 2 is to be played on map 73, another map created by spearjr which has seen some very close 2 player games in the past. It's an arbitrary decision made by me because I dont want to use the dogbone maps (we've all played them to death).
The draw is as follows:
2A Shizzane v ooivalf
2B Rebelslayer v t_o_m9
2C kxw v Djura
2D Kanga v freduk
2E snoozefest v Alashar
2F gische v smlait
The two players who lose by the smallest margin (calculated by the difference in overall scores over the 3 maps) will go through to the quarter finals.
The 3rd round will be played on map 52, and will be run as following:
2A vs lucky loser 1
2B vs lucky loser 2
2C vs 2F
2D vs 2E
I'll adjust the lucky losers order if necessary so that matchup's are not repeated.
The maps for the semi final and final are not decided. Please make suggestions either here or via email. Some of the maps I've liked include 60 and 73, but I'm sure there are others. About the only criteria is not having a clear "best spot" to start in so that player 1 has an advantage. |

Essentially based on rankings via win %. Because I started two games after the tournament had started (ie they weren't originally seeded), I just added the two winners into the mix at the spot they would have been ranked.
Note that snoozefest, who defeated spearjr (ranked 5th) got his spot in the seedings. |

Sorry to disappoint stargate (maybe your predictions are jinxes)!
Rebelslayer and t_o_m9 had another series of tight games.
Original: t_o_m9 put in a nice water block from which Rebelslayer never recovered. 218 vs 198
V1: t_o_m9 again tried a water block but it turned into wasted water and points when Rebelslayer turned his herds around and went to a different market. 175 vs 231
V2: t_o_m9 looked to have the game all wrapped up with a 50 pt lead in the middle of the game (80 vs 30), but Rebelslayer slowly clawed it back. t_o_m9 tried another water block to stop Rebelslayer getting to the last market, but Rebelslayer continued to creep back into it to even the score on the very last turn and steal victory in the tie breaker with more cash! 153 vs 153 (tiebreaker cash 0 vs 80).
Rebelslayer 2:1 - thanks for the games t_o_m9 |

I hope it's not a jinx
I also thought t_o_m9 had the best chance to beat you
and it looks like he gave you a good fight
congrats on your wins |

Kanga vs Freduk was a remarkably lopsided affair, with 3 easy wins to me. I think Freduk didn't want to be the player to knock the tournament organiser out of the tournament! Freduk did suffer the appalling bad luck in the variant 2 game of drawing 9 meadow tiles in his first 12 land, a start that I doubt anyone could recover from. The combined losing margin was well in excess of 100 points (ie Freduk wont be a lucky loser). However the games were played quickly and in good spirit. Oddly enough, my first round match is still not yet complete! |

Djura defeated kxw 2-1
Normal game: 238-256 Kxw had a 9 point lead having touched 1 more market at the halfway point. Second half was even, leading to an 18 point victory for kxw.
Variant 1 199 - 149 Djura had an big lead at halfway courtesy of a large pig herd controlling the left hand markets.
Variant 2 155-135 very close throughout, with Djura's very narrow lead becoming a moderate sized victory in the last few turns. |

The 3 players through are all from our old Adelaide playing group. I always thought it was a highly competitive playing group...! |
