Or you could just ask stargate how important treasures are... He still hasn't forgotten our first game!
(It was my first game and nobody had ever told me how important treasures were, so I focused on temples because they looked like they were worth more points. He had the biggest treasure lead either of us has ever seen. I won.) |

thanks for the NIGHTMARE Susan
and that game was never as close as the final score
some of this thread is from my recent poor play and possible poor luck
playing Tikal with Olrik and others
(my brain is tuned to Hacienda )
we all have different opinions about the luck factor > no need to say more
I agree with Ryan -- we should not be changing rules
the games are the games
if you like a game --- play it win or lose (think Amun-Re for me)
if you don't -- then don't play that game (think Wally Sloooooo for me)
Olrik --- you are a good Tikal player |

thx for the clarification RyanMC. i understand in issues with introducing house rules. and on the long run those things prolly even out anyway.
and for all those telling me to "adjust" my style plz have a look at this game: http://www.spielbyweb.com/game.php?games_id=33757 which illustrates exactly the situation i described. |

Looking at that game, I'm not seeing anything that concerns me greatly. Your opponent drew a treasure tile on turn 1 and placed it so they could get a second worker to it on turn 2, thereby picking up a 3-1 treasure lead. That's pretty typical. But doing that consumes an extra 6AP from your opponent. I would have been using those 6AP to give myself a couple-of-worker advantage and spreading those workers around the board as much as I could so that my opponent couldn't repeat the trick. In my opinion, the play that set up your opponent to be able to repeat the 3-1 treasure trick was when you spent your extra AP on setting up a camp on the dug-up treasure tile two stones away from the home camp. While I've seen many players do similar things, I don't think I've ever seen it be a winning play - particularly in a 2-player game where you want to save your camps until you find the perfect position for them. More importantly, it consumed 5AP very early in the game when you want your workers either busy finding assignments or digging up treasures.
That's just my opinion - and obviously influenced by my own play style - but, even as the game stands right now, I don't see that it's already been lost. There are still tons of tiles left to come out - and you don't know how long it will be before the first volcano comes up. |
