5 tournaments starting now.. 3 players get to play in 2 tournaments, making it 42 individual players. The 3 players do not include any previous finalists in these tournaments, so it's unlikely we'll have one person winning two tournaments.
The games are to be played on:
Game 1: Map 117 no var
Game 2: Map 145 variant 1
Game 3: Map 181 var 2
Game 4: Map 187 var 1 var 2
All games password: tournament
Please copy and paste the game name from this page so it is copied EXACTLY the way I have it. This is very important for me looking up game progress...
Copy the player names into the comments field.
If someone has not joined within 24 hours, please send them a message. I may not get to check for a few days, and anyway with 42 players it's a huge task to check on everyone.

Kanga, I just notice you created your game with map 181, is this the correct one to use, not 81 |

I followed his lead Kanga and made it map 181 instead of 81 for the game 3

Yes, it was meant to be 181, and I've edited the original post to show this. Thanks for pointing it out. |

Just out of interest, what sort of method do you use for chosing which people play against each other in which tournament. I only ask because it so happens I know (in real life) three others who regularly take part in these tourneys, worcesterarlo, Jernau25 and striking_cobra. Worcesterarlo is almost always in the same tourney as me and the other two more rarely. I don't think I've ever played a tournament game against striking_cobra. It seems that way anyway, if I did the math I may find it is more even.
Please note, this post is intended only as a polite enquiry. I have no complaints at all and am very very happy that you organise these tournaments so well and so frequently. Thank you. |

I use a different method each time. The first few tournaments were done in order of entry (ie the first 9 players played in Tournament 1, etc). In other tournaments I've sorted alphabetically; by average turn speed; by winning percentage; by games played; and on this occasion, by games won.
I'm starting to lean towards choosing winning %, simply because it produces more interesting tournaments. The same players were dominating every tournament; and the same players were winless. In the current 4 player tournaments I sorted by win%, and we have a much more even contest. In tournament 4, 13 of the 16 players have won 1 game, and only 3 have won 2 or more. Tournament 5 has 9 of 16 winning 1. Both tournaments still have games to finish, so that might increase the spread too.
However I'm interested in people's thoughts. So far I've been making it up as I go along. |

Thanks for the explanation. I think the similar win rates method is a good one.
It feels a lot better in a tournament to be playing against folks with similar ability. I guess the only 'problem' could be the one I saw earlier, of always playing against the same opponents.
Do you go with how many tournament games won or overall win rate? |

overall, simply because it's too time consuming to do otherwise.
however now I have a larger tournament database, if I get time I'll put together a overall win / loss list, and publish that. It could then be used. |

I'd be happier if the win ratios were (or could) reflect the # player games you've played. Doing a 3 player tournament by winning % in 3 player games makes sense but if someone plays only 5 player and wins 40% why should they be in the same bucket as someone who only plays 2 player and wins 40%?
I once again reiterate my calls to break down winning % by # player games and to change the 10/50/100 min. game rankings to last 10/50/100 (which also implies minimum). |

I'm in a match v. Kanga and Rebelslayer. Talk about a terrible draw. |

One thing that is in your advantage is that Rebel and I hate to lose to eachother and have been known to watch eachother too closely, forgetting about the 3rd person in a 3 player game, to our detriment... |

In terms of the tournament changing this would make little difference to the draws. At most players would move up or down a few % points, which in turn would only occasionally change which tournament they slot into.
If you want to amuse yourself and prove (or disprove) your point, it wouldn't take long to choose a few of the players with high winning %'s, and then manually check their win % in different number of player games.
Given these tournaments will be ongoing, I'll put a poll in a new thread to get everyone's opinion as to how they would like them to be run. |

Wow, first game to have ended?
3player T12 4A
Payton3434 96 (-7)
hagin 103 (w)
GamesOnTheBrain (-7)
Was a hard fought game. Interestingly all of us had 95 points before money.... |
