Yes, but the badge itself is made out of spam. Sorry. |
So is that a "shiny badge made of canned meat" or a "shiny badge that tells me how to deal with ED"? |

We're also looking into customizing the phpbb CAPTCHA to stop any bots from registering in the first place. Apparently the out-of-the-box CAPTCHA is absolutely worthless. |

Any ETA on this? Spam posts seem to be on the increase, but it could just be my perception as I degenerate into an intolerant cantankerous old git. |

I have installed tons of anti spam stuff, the problem is they use real people to post most of the time. That makes any added efforts really hard to implement. They get real people to register via fake sites that capture our registration pages. Then they use the bots to post once the registration is done by a real person. I am constantly looking for new ways to try and solve this, but its an uphill battle. _________________ ---------------

What about the idea (I believe it was Stargate's) of not letting any posting unless you have joined/completed at least one game? |

I would strongly recommend the "must have completed a game" to post, otherwise I predict a rash of games abandoned after 1 turn... |

What about the requirement that you "must have completed a game in which stargate was one of the players"?
(Not to add any pressure to stargate's life or anything...) |

Wow! What a coincidence! I'm in a hotel room with your sister!
She said she wanted a quick Tikal.
Although it looks like being more of a Reef Encounter. |

Well, well, well, what's he doing in Columbus? No, wait, must be playing games or attending a game convention I guess. And I'll have to have a word with him sometime his promise. |

I must be most naieve, I did not see any spam.
but if it really poses a problem, I think Stargate and Vinny got the right combined idea. At least one finished game, to forestall abandonded games.
Hi Stargate, say hello to Crazy yog at that game convention, I am most jealous I can't come there too. Just ever too slightly out of my way _________________ Sanne |

Personally, I'm not too worried about the "abandoned game" problem. Spamming is a high-volume business (for lack of a better word...), so I don't think the spammers have time to actually read the site and figure out the workaround. On a relatively small site like this I don't think it would be worth their effort.
So basically I think it will be sufficient just to make sure a user has started a game before they post. |
