I think a lot of these questions can be answered in multiple ways. We probably need to have a defined goal of what the variant is trying to achieve. If we want the game to play "the same" but just faster then we should try to keep the basic scoring potential of each type of tile the same.

I think for sure we remove "sets" of treasure. You need to keep the ability to score the triple alive for everyone, or the risk of going after late treasure is going to be way to great.

I think that possibly lowering the bell curve on the temples may work. Kill one of each excavation tile (thus removing the 10) may be interesting.

We may also want to eliminate a few workers from the supply. If we leave the same number in the game, camp placement may become even more important than it already is. If you can just unload a nearly limitless supply of workers from a camp in the shortened game it may unbalance things. We may want to remove a % of workers that is equal to the number of tiles removed.

Just some thoughts.
