Any other takers for a five player practice game of this variant? It is called Money 5A (password: money). We have three players so far. C'mon, give it a try!

We are still testing out the mechanics of this variant to see if we can give it some value - please watch for further information and feel free to playtest yourself in the meantime!

Having completed a couple of games, I think the concept is OK, but the rules need ironing out a bit more.

I am tempted by Knave's suggestion of a minimum sacrifice of 10 in the first round only, but I suspect Berenike (and Abu and Dahkla) may then become be too valuable.

So here is my suggestion:

Sacrifice in the first round must be at least 10.

If Berenike is available, the minimum bid for it is 15 followed by a sacrifice of 5.

I will set up some practice games called Money ... password Money.

Please join me to see how it works.

I don't see the need for a minimum bid on bernicke, abu, and dahkla. Assuming they are as valuable as you say they are, the bid could easily go up to 10, which would not allow any first round purchases for Bernicke or Abu buyers. Not a single brick, not a single power card.

As for dahkla, again, if it is that valuable, the bid for dahkla could technically go as high as 21, since that would still leave the purchaser with 12 gold, more than enough for the 12 gold sacrifice.

Offhand... and I guess I'll be giving away my strategy here, the camel provinces would still be the best. You get some of the farming income from the level 4 sacrifice in the first turn, and then camel income from that point on.

As you have said, the fewer rules to remember, the better, and I think a straight "you must sacrifice 10 gold first round" covers the situation well.

It would be very easy for somebody to screw up the first round and blow the sacrifice, ruining the whole game.

True - which is why I originally wanted to use the auction only. However, I am not sure how well it worked - grateful for feedback.

I would hope that players could manage to the end of round one, but ...

I don't mind trying it without an exception for Berenike.
