The original map with 8 markets favours a land pile. All these tourneys being played on 10 and 12 market maps favour an animal and market grab. I hope to see maps used in the next 2 player that have fewer markets. |

The original map has 10 markets The key is that many of them are 2 squares away from land meaning you have to build reasonable herds to reach them, meaning that the game ends before all the markets are reached.
The problem with maps with fewer, say 8 or less, markets, is that the only viable strategy is buy out land. There are lots of useless animals left in the game after all the markets are touched, so the winner is whoever get's the luckiest with his random land buys.
Even some maps with 10 or 11 markets work out this way. These are the games that take 30+ turns as everyone buys out the land and plays them.
12+ markets usually means you need to focus on markets rather than land, but not always exclusively so.
The reason I'm beating you on map 271 is you allowed me to build around the central waters on each section.. |

Maps with fewer than 10 markets tend to be boring for the first dozen turns or so while everyone blind buys the land. That'd be fine for face-to-face games, but for PBEM games, I lose all interest. It might be an idea to run a "market poor" tournament for players who enjoy those maps though... |

Please do give feedback if there's something you particularly dislike (or like) about how the tournaments are run. I make it up as I go on, and am always willing to try things differently.
Perhaps Early you could suggest some maps you like to play on. |

52, 63, 160....I think they'd all be good 2 player maps. I think we've played a couple of those in tourneys but not 2 player. |

And obviously I'm not very good at changing up my style of play. My instinct is to go for the land deck and not touch the animal deck until I'm short of money or about to be blocked from a market. I adapt when its variant 1 but don't like that variant in general for the very reason of everyone running through the animal deck. Lesson - bend to fit the map. |

Thats certainly true of a 4 or 5 player game but 2 player? Unless its Bob and I, I don't think too many 2 player games just empty the land deck. |

I think you're doing a great job and have no complaints - only thanks! The odd map comes up that doesn't suit my play style - but I figure that's only fair since we all deal with that at some point. |

I would like to see Kanga develop some maps along with Rebelslayer. Haven't seen any from them yet. |

As a general rule, my creative ability is approximately the equivalent of your average rock. |

Hmm ... I'm not sure my creative ability goes even that far. Still ... if the request is out there, I'll try to make a map in the shape of Australia!
Just so all you yanks can find it on a map!
Keep your eyes peeled! |

Kanga defeated Early_10 2-0 (will be 3-0 soon)
as you can guess from the above discussions Early didn't change his style to suit the map and as a result the games were relatively one sided.
That leads to the first semi final game, Kanga v GamesOnTheBrain
2 Player T3 R4 G1
Map 217
Password: 2player
Will check the status of other games when I get home tonight. |
