In July of 2016 our family's world became a nightmare of fear, worry, and anxiety, but also great hope, encouragement, and inspiration.
Our eldest grandchild, my then ten-year-old, much-loved grandson Mark, was diagnosed with cancer. For three weeks he had been ill with what everyone thought was a sinus infection, but two doses of different antibiotics weren't clearing it up.
His behavior changed dramatically on July 21 and my daughter rushed him to the emergency room. That night the doctors diagnosed his cancer and transferred him to the hospital’s Children’s Cancer Center. His diagnosis was Stage 4 Burkitt’s Lymphoma and Leukemia, and the doctors started chemotherapy immediately.
Once the word was out that Mark was desperately ill, help came from everywhere in the form of angels from my daughter and son-in-law’s parish, Mark’s parish elementary school, family, friends, my parish, acquaintances, and even from people we never knew from across the country and overseas. |

| I think that online stores are the best thing that has ever been created. It's great that I can buy whatever I want while sitting on the couch. I buy almost everything online, except groceries. A few days ago I bought jewelry online for the first time. I rummaged through the net and came across diamond watches for men for my husband and also saw a stunning ring that I couldn't find anywhere else. And the price was so reasonable that I thought, why not order. I received it yesterday and I believe I won't be able to stop wearing it. |
