| Many people hesitate to get a canvas shelter because they are heavier than backpacking gear, but for winter camping, a 4 season canvas tent is a literal life-saver. I’ve been using the Coody 17.2 in the black colorway, which is great because it actually absorbs solar heat during the day. When the sun goes down, the thickness of the canvas holds that warmth much better than thin plastic walls. Combined with an inflatable frame that won't snap under a snow load, it feels more like a portable cabin than a tent. If you are serious about year-round travel, having a dedicated winter setup that includes a wood stove is the only way to avoid just "surviving" the night and actually start enjoying the cold. |
