Wouldn't that just allow people an easy way out of games they are losing / losing interest in? Aren't you actually requesting an institutionalized way of dropping games here, which just exacerbates the issue?

I think there's little use in endangering game quality and overall atmosphere between players for questionable benefits in game speed.

I'm suggesting that if someone formally sets up a game that indicates the hours of play and the turns per day, and someone signs up, ignores the parameters, and is holding up the other four players out of ignorance or selfishness, that the other four players be given the option of replacing the player who has chosen to crap all over the game. I don't care if it goes on the outcast's stats or not.

There are two obvious solutions for this which have been covered before

1) Join more games and stop sweating the one that may not finish
2) Password your games and send out invites

If it's still a problem after that, someone is living a charmed life Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

cterrell ... you missed Luv's option as number 3 ... and probably the best given that the further these posts have gone, the more inflammatory have become one of those involved in them ... hmm ... wonder who I'm talking about? ... not you Luv ... maybe the person who set up this poll? Sad

Actually, the results of the poll are more persuasive than the sort of retentive, fearful backlash that it inspired. It looks like 25 percent of the respondents want player filtering and 75 percent don't, or don't care. I find that more convincing than cheap shots.

I honestly believe there is a lot of merit to both sides of this argument. Which makes developing a good solution that much more difficult -- doing it in a way that will please everyone involved.

I do also want to improve this site. It is my child, and I do want to see it improve and develop. There are dozens, possibly hundreds of good suggestions that have been made and I would like to implement all of them. And yes, taking on additional volunteer developers would help address that, but doing even that will take a significant amount of effort to manage. I know this from experience -- bringing Ryan and Myke onboard has resulted in the addition of two excellent games, and they really saved me in terms of stepping up and taking over much of the daily administration and bug fixing over the past year, but it did take a lot of time supporting them in getting acquainted with how everything works, and was also a big risk (fortunately neither of them have wiped out the database, at least not yet).

I'm closing this and a few other threads that have passed the point of meaningful discussion for the time being, so that (a) I can catch up and (b) folks can calm down a little bit. I do ask that you all keep civil and respectful in your posts, and please try to remember that you aren't always going to be able to convince those with opposing views that you are right.
