Had a wierd situation. a Person threw the game for another person to win, refusing to put stones on his land so that the other guy would get most temples on both sides. Is there anything to stop this? And could it be the same guy with 2 computers? The game name was Egyption havok. Payton3434 in the rewards section refused to take a stone and put in on the east side of nile allowing player Docaction to take most temples on both sides of the nile. I even pointed out before his move that Docaction put just enough on both sides to tie me and him, and he still allowed the other guy to have it. It was very coordinated. I doubt you will do anything, but what defense do we have against poeple with multiple computers? |

Adminstrator,
This was an honest mistake, I knew I needed more points and had no power cards that gave me any points
I have played over 600 games in the last year and can't believe someone is saying that I cheated.
I would never let another person win on purpose, my goal is to win the game
thank you |

This may be the case Payton. And in that event i am sorry. But the real point of this note is simply, what protection do we have against friends or the same person choosing persons to win. Perhaps it is none, i am new to this veniew and am seeking guidance. |

by the way , in that game, you were 18 points down when you tried to win the game by taking one card. This was why i thought you had decided to give it to the other guy. |

Also take into account you have been in 9 previous games with docaction before and he has won every single one. No, i think i am right on the mark here when considering the way he won this one. 3 points is the maximum pionts you couldve gotten by getting one card, and being down 18 points, all you did was make sure he won yet again. |

You have only been here a month and already you are accusing people of cheating! Please wash your dirty laundry elsewhere. |

I also have not been here long but in that time I have managed to make many mistakes. None of these have been an attempt to help another player and I haven't even checked if they did, just sitting here kicking myself.
I enjoy playing several games at the same time and in so doing do not always check any secondary benefit between other players there may be as long as I gain a net benefit where it matters.
I am also worried that new and novice players will be put off from playing for fear of being accused of cheating when making either a click mistake or a poor move, as I am sure many of us have. There are certainly enough threads complaining about click errors.
I had wanted to ask my wife to join so she can enjoy the same games we play FtF with friends but she would be devastated to be accused of cheating as she is also capable of the odd mistake.
I understand the need to ensure we keep the site free from cheats and muliple players on the same computer may be an indicator but not proof.
There have been a couple of threads of this nature recently and I think it would be better to have a private area were members could report potential abuse. Admins could then check and take any appropriate action.
This has got to be better than honest players being abused in public and allows those who feel cheated to instigate an investigation without upsetting the innocent.

Saul Pum: While you are relatively new here, and have found what seems to be a common complaint, its important to remember a couple of things before airing any complaints: 1) saying things without proof is really assuming and when we assume we make an .... well you get the point; 2) many of the players, such as Docation and Payton have been here for a long time, played many games, and know each other from this gaming site -- its similar to joining a FTF gaming convention where the other members have been meeting for years together. When you've played with each other numerouss times, you get to know the moves of the others well and being to predict/react not just react to their behaviors. What you might have noticed in your game was nothing more than Payton knowing that Docation would eventually win regardless of his move, so he was just attempting to retrieve every possible point for himself. If you're quite confident that there was wrongdoing, make a mental note and don't play with them again. Or, create a game and challenge them to a rematch. Just some food for thought from someone that early on, had similar feelings and then realized I just suck so I play for the fun not the win. |

Looking at the details of the Amun-Re game, if Payton3434's goal was to give docaction the game, why did he/she help you out by reducing the offering instead of increasing it? You weren't hurt by the income you lost (and obviously weren't too concerned about that since you reduced the offering yourself), and gained from the point docaction lost (and two Payton3434 lost).
It may not have been obvious to Payton3434 who was going to win the game, or perhaps he/she had thought docaction had it won and was hoping for second (or at least not to finish as far behind second). Thus attempting to maximize his/her own score is a valid option to take (even if it was unlikely to get the one power card that would help). It takes time and effort to calculate the possible outcomes of the game, even at that late a stage (who might get what from bonus cards and most gold), and if you think you have no shot, it can be easier to just try for the most points rather than think of what may or may not affect the winner.
It is a game of decisions and it's not always obvious which is the right decision to take. For example, you chose as your reward a farmer and 2 stones to get the 3 points for the farmer bonus card plus an extra 3 gold income. Instead you could have taken 3 stones and locked up most pyramids in the West, costing docaction 5 points. Turns out that would have been better for you, but still not quite enough to win. But it wasn't clear to you what was best, and similarly may not have been to Payton3434.
They have been in 13 games together (not 9), out of 1100+ played. Of these 13 docaction has won most, but not all. Seems like a bit of a stretch to accuse someone of having two accounts and helping one account win games, based on these numbers.
Also note that docaction has won 45% of 500 or so games completed, whereas Payton3434 has won only 12.5% of 650+ games played. Could it just be that docaction is better at playing than Payton3434 (sorry Payton3434 ) and thus has won most of those 13 games?
They played head-to-head in http://www.spielbyweb.com/game.php?games_id=22175 -- and docation wrote a couple messages to Payton3434. That would have to be an elaborate ploy to throw off the detectives, all to cheat at 13 games out of 1100.
OK, so if they aren't the same user, but are good enough of friends to throw games in favor of one another, why have they only played in 13 games together out of 500+ each? And why hasn't docation ever helped Payton3434 out?
I spent 2 minutes with my detective work on previous games and 3 minutes looking at the Amun-Re game log, and there is no evidence to support any wrongdoing. I would hope that SBW users would spend at least 5 times that before sending me a private message with such an accusation, let alone a public one. |

The best way to prevent this sort of thing is to avoid playing certain people.
I, for example, would choose not to join games created by Saul Pum. He appears to be a bad sport. |
