Maybe I am just not seeing the non-passworded ones before they fill up, but it seems that there are a lot of game creators that password their games.

Why is this? Have there been a lot of unreliable/poor players?

There are lots of unfinished games, so people often play with those they know. If you want to start a game up with no password odds are it will fill up pretty quickly though.

Can we come up with something where if the game doesn't fill up after a week or two that it's deleted though? I doubt some of those people are even playing anymore...

I don't think a game not filling up is the issue. I am in two stalled games where we had 5 sign ups but player one failed to allocate any cubes. In the second the allocation phase completed but player one failed to make a move.

At least with trusted players this aggrievation is avoided.

Just to be slightly more optimistic. I've started about 80 non-password games on this site and only 4 or 5 of them have been abandoned. Those cases are rather annoying, especially if the game was well progressed, but still its not a bad failure rate.

I usually play non-passworded games as a rule, usually the passworded games are re-matches. I've also only had a handful of abandoned games so I don't think that there is too much of a problem with them.

All my games have been non-passworded and none have gone dormant.

The suggestion to remove games from the "available" list after two weeks is a good one. If someone starts a passworded game and can't get enough players signed up in two weeks, the game should be removed from the list. They can always recreate it. Right now, there are lots of "failed to get enough signup" games in the list - just a bunch of clutter.

People who play frequently should also look for games denoted as using the "Fast player password," which is "speedy."

Maybe an option to remove the password from the game would be nice. It would allow lazy game creators who can't find more players to just open it up to anyone.

Unstarted games older than 3 weeks will be deleted automatically. I'll also look into allowing game creators to remove/edit passwords.

Suggestion ... part of the reason the list seems unwieldly long is that it's one column wide... there is a lot of wasted screen real estate on the right side of the games list page... how about making it two columns wide? To keep it simple just make the 1st column for waiting games of Amun-Re, Bus, and Hoity Toity, and the 2nd column for the other 3...

If you wanted to get fancy use layers to create a page similiar to a tab'ed dialog box with one tab for each game (and each tab can be 2 columns wide as well). Smile Smile

Hmm... I bet if someone *cough*JeffyJeff*cough* volunteered their time and expertise *cough*JeffyJeff*cough*, these suggestions could be implemented quickly and efficiently.

If I had access to the source for games.php I could take a look. I'll probably need some ramp up time for PHP as I do 99% of my stuff in perl
