OK, I've added this (well, returned it to service -- it used to be available as a per-game option, which I didn't make sense, so I removed the setting):
Look for the "Email me when it's my turn" preference setting at:

This is all well and good for most people who take their turns in a reasonable amount of time, but I think the system should start sending daily emails to people that have not made a move in a game after 3 or so days. Maybe the game creator could configure the period so people knew what they were signing up for.
It may not make a difference in some cases as the person may not be a frequent internet user, but I'm sure it would prompt some of the slower users to get on and take their turn. I dont mind the casual/slower game, but keeping 4 other people waiting for days/weeks is just pretty rude and IMO means the perpetrator deserves some gentle prodding.
Regards

The person who has requested this feature has already abandoned 4 games and is in two games of mine that s/he has disappeared from. Please start sending this person emails again!
It's fine if people want to turn off the notification, but if they don't come to the site in 24 hours, maybe that should be the time to start sending reminders. |

24 Hours ? Are you nuts ?
This particular player has gone absent for a whole 8 days. That's absolutely nothing. Take a look at how long some of us have to wait. Clue: I have 2 games waiting since August 13th and September 20th. I happen to know that the August game will never move, as I know the guy who we're waiting for and he isn't interested in Hacienda (we did bully him into it). The September 20th game is very annoying as the player keeps coming back purely to extent his 'away' date then disappearing again.
Really, 8 days is nothing around here. |

this user has completed over 200 games with no problems
I think either the user has had a life event and is unable to
play at this time or went on vacation and forgot to activate the
vacation link -- I think this player will be back
and that the players in his or her games should be patient
and I agree 8 days is not a long time |

I just meant 24 hours to send an email that it is their turn. Not to label them as a pariah, or anything. I mean, if you turn off notification because you visit the site frequently, fine. But what happens if you stop visiting the site frequently? And then you forget? It's just a reminder email, it's not like I'm saying the person should be shot, or anything. Sheesh! How about a little perspective.
And what difference does it make how long you have had to wait in some games? How is that relevant? You suffered so others should suffer, too? Unless you're using those as examples of having waited a really long time and then the person came back, well, that would strengthen your argument. Is that what you're saying? |

I'm currently in 30 or so games. If I go 26 hours without checking in (maybe I had to drive a friend to the hospital or something similar came up), I really don't want my email account being bombed with 30 "it's your turn" messages. I don't think 24 hours is a reasonable turnaround to start sending reminder emails to people who've specifically requested not getting them. Certainly not unless the site can just send one generic message (which I doubt is possible).
I understand the problem with people who don't take their turns, but the inconvenience to regular players who are out for 1 or 2 days for perfectly valid reasons would be far greater than any gain in speeding up games. (Frankly, I don't think an email reminder will be enough to get back someone who's deliberately abandoned the game anyway.) |

I'm getting a bunch of e-mails reporting it's my turn. That's ok. But I'm also getting loads of e-mails reporting somebody joined my game. How can I disable that? It's really annoying. |
