I am playing a game Moon Dance 6 - 8779.
In rounds 4 and 5 I gave the second highest sacrifice yet in both subsequent rounds I have played in third place, instead of in second, which is quite frustrating. |

I believe that the person who offers the most becomes the first player but that others dont change their relative order, whatever they offered. |

It looks like you correctly received your two rewards for placing second. Are you talking about turn order?
Turn order doesn't go strictly by how much you sacrifice. Just like in the live game, whoever sacrifices the most becomes the new start player, then turn order goes clockwise from that person. On SPW, the game randomly assigns an order around the table (much like it assigns a random start player at the beginning) and then sticks to that the whole game.
So in game 8779, here are the possible orders of play:

Hope this helps! |
